Bricks in Use
The residential uses of brick can be seen in fences and entries, fireplaces, and structural brick homes.

Brick fences & entries add elegance and security to any home or neighborhood. Brick fences are low maintenance and are an effective barrier against sound transmission. Developers who routinely use masonry fences and entries enjoy the benefits of shorter market time, higher margins, and that image of quality. Mutual Materials has developed a system which is the most cost effective method for building masonry fences. These fences can be designed as 4-inch, single-wythe (single brick or block) walls which span between columns, eliminating the need for expensive concrete footings and reinforcing. These designs also reduce excavation costs. The flexibility of this design allows the developer to tailor a masonry fence which best suits the project site.

The Rumford has been the fireplace of choice in the homes of American families since the eighteenth century. Today the American home requires the warmth and beauty of an all-masonry fireplace as much as homes of earlier times. Just as our ancestors enjoyed the efficiency, affordability, and clean-burning of the Rumford fireplace, we can too. Mutual Materials offers all of the components and materials necessary for the installation of the true Rumford fireplace design. You’ll get all of the performance characteristics that make the Rumford fireplace a joy to own. It even accommodates a gas log. The Rumford fireplace works with any decorating design as well as a wide array of facing materials.

Brick Shapes
Mutual Materials manufactures many specialized shapes to help you create structures unique unto themselves. Below shows our “standard brick shapes”. You are free to design with these when normal brick will not satisfy your needs. The standard brick shapes shown here can be produced in smooth or mission textures as noted and are available in the color/texture combinations shown about in the Brick Colors. Please be aware that colors produced by flashing may have different flash patterns on shapes.

Face Brick

Versa Tile

Versa-Tile is designed for interior or exterior use on vertical or horizontal surfaces where a brick type ruggedness is desired. They are designed to be laid with a 1/2 inch mortar joint. Pavers

Pavers are designed for setting dry without mortar joint. They may be set on a cushion of sand over a base of your choosing. The thickness will physically lock the units in place and support pedestrian and light vehicular traffic. Either the smooth or mission textured bed may be used as the wearing surface. Of course, the may also be mortared in place if you wish. The exposed faces of each shape are indicated by a more intense color on the drawings. Bullnose

Chamfer

Radial

Radial brick are desirable when the radius is too small to produce an acceptable smooth surface with stretchers. This may be accomplished in some cases by the use of halves or headers at the radius areas. Standard stretchers can turn a 5′-0″ radius and Norman stretchers can turn an 8′-0″ radius quite nicely. Mutual Materials can manufacture smooth standard inside and outside radial brick with a minimum 1′-6″ and a maximum 12′-0″ radius. Norman and standard outside radial brick can be produced with a mission texture in virtually any radius. The length “X” of a radial brick is determined by the arc of the circumference. It is important to know if one is dealing with a full circle, half, etc. The length “X” can be no longer than the basic unit of the wall. Starter units must be used unless the arc is a cull circle or the arc is butting another wall. The exposed faces of each shape are indicated by a more intense color on the drawings. Jamb

Dogleg

Brick Flooring & Paving can be used for both interior and exterior driveways, walkways, patios, floors, sidewalks and plazas. Brick is timeless and adding brick flooring & paving to a project or home can make it timeless. As an architect’s design medium, brick is extremely flexible. Brick exudes a feeling of warmth and elegance. The colors and different installation patterns make it a highly creative and adaptable paving surface.

Because Brick Flooring & Paving can be either sand-set or mortar-set, it can be used successfully in a wide range of products. Flexible brick paving (units that are sand-set) is one of the paving industry’s most favored surfaces for light-duty vehicular applications. Its popularity is due to its ability to be installed by unskilled labor, and later removed for utility work and replaced at minimal cost.

For interior surfaces, Versa-tile and Mica-tile can be mortar set for hallways, lobbies, stairs, and covered atriums. Interior Brick Flooring can be sealed for a high-gloss, very attractive surface.

Versa-Tile and Mica-Tile
Versa-Tile and Mica-Tile are designed for interior and exterior use on vertical and horizontal surfaces where a brick-type ruggedness is desired. Versa-Tile and Mica-Tile are designed to be laid with a ½” mortar joint. Both offer the combination of versatility, durability and color selection that no other building material can match. Versa-Tiles are available in Carib and Inca and in both mission and smooth textures. Mica-Tiles are available in four colors, but only in the smooth textures.

Brick Pavers
Brick Pavers are designed for setting dry on a sand or tar paper cushion where thickness is desired for traffic and physical locking of units. They may be used with either the smooth or wire-cut side as the wearing surface and come in five colors. The net dimensions of 4”x8” permit pattern bonds where mortar joints are not used.
